Cadanses Folk - Traditional French Music and Dance
What is traditional French folk music and dance?
Many of you will have seen the nice ladies and gentlemen at the Fetes in their flowery dresses and waistcoats performing a colourful display - but this is very much a historical reenactment of folk dancing at the beginning of the last century.
What we do is very much more up to date - and fancy dress is not required!
The membership fee covers the hire of the hall, expenses for bands and dance teachers and subsidises the various events which are organised throughout the year - good value!
Salles de Fetes in Flavignac, from 8.30 to 10.30pm.
If you want to find out more, contact Greg or Cara on 05 55 78 54 20
Visit the Cadanses Folk website for more information

SUNDAY 5th JULY 18.00 HRS MONDAY 6th JULY 21.00 HRS
Wendy and Lucy 2008 80mins
Michelle Williams plays Wendy, who is desperately driving up to Alaska to find work in a fish cannery. But her car breaks down irretrievably somewhere in Oregon, and with little money and nowhere to live, she is terrifyingly close to staying there forever as a homeless person. Her only friend is Lucy, the golden retriever she has taken along on this ill-starred trip. Williams is a powerful performer, and this is a powerful subject: how people on society's margins can slither down, irreversibly, into poverty.
MONDAY 13th JULY 21.00hrs
Angels and Demons 2009 138 mins
Follow up to the DaVinci code. When a murder of a physicist, Leonardo Vetra, finds a symbolist, Robert Langdon, and Mr. Vetra's daughter, Vittoria, on an adventure for a secret brotherhood, The Illuminati. Clues lead them all around the Vatican, including the four alters of science, Earth, Air, Fire and Water. An Assassin, working for the Illuminati, has captured four cardinals, and murders each, painfully. Robert and Vittoria also are searching for a new very destructive weapon that could kill millions.
THURSDAY 9th JULY 21.00hrs SUNDAY 12th JULY 18.00 hrs
Coraline 2009 100 mins
This enjoyable creepy animation fantasy in 3D is from Henry Selick, who directed The Nightmare Before Christmas, and does a similar job on this movie, adapted from a book by Neil Gaiman. Coraline, voiced by Dakota Fanning, is a bored 13-year-old who discovers a secret door in the house that her parents have rented. It takes her to a weirdo alternative-universe that at first seems much nicer - before its full horror is revealed. Some scary fun.
SUNDAY 19th JULY 18;00hrs
The Wrestler 2008 109 mins
A has-been professional wrestler heads back into the ring with hopes of staging a comeback. The director makes Rourke, who as a self-destructive ex-boxer knows the worlds of sport and loserdom from the inside, dig deep in what one might call a fallen-star vehicle. It’s shot documentary style, on a shoestring, with terrific performances from Marisa Tomei as the stripper he loves and Evan Rachel Wood as his estranged, embittered daughter giving authenticity. But the most potent truth here comes from the wrecked, likeable, touching Rourke himself – he makes The Wrestler unmissable.

And the programme ahead for July is
SUNDAY 5th JULY 18.00 HRS MONDAY 6th JULY 21.00 HRS

YOU RECOMMEND.......... here we list restaurants you recommend to others Resto-Grill Brantome - Dordogne If rustic French cuisine with no frills is more up your street than haute cuisine, then Ben’s Resto-Grill in Brantome is for you. It looks like a restaurant you would pass by from the outside but inside lies a treasure of fabulous country culinary delights. The main menu stays the same but the food varies with the seasons and is the best value for money restaurant we have been to in France. If you have a hearty appetite, look no further than the cote de boeuf, huge, great quality and delicately cooked over beechwood which an ever changing variety of potatoes or cous-cous and seasonal vegetables. Don’t be alarmed if some soup arrives, unordered, in winter- it’s wonderful and there’s no charge, and the owner’s seasonal recommendations are a must. For example, in asparagus season, asparagus with smoked salmon, capers, onions and melted cheese- divine, or new-season lamb cooked in Moroccan spices. Mention Club Vermilion and you will be guaranteed a wonderful reception!’ Resto-Grill Rue de Gambetta Brantome Dordogne 05 53 05 86 25 |

A new contact group has been formed in the Haute Vienne town of St Yrieix La Perche - Limousin
The group is the brain child of Dutch couple Frans and Toke Verschuren, who, when thy moved to the town nearly 18 months ago, struggled at first to find much of the information they needed to establish them in their new life.
Apart from the British, it is hoped that local French and Dutch people will be joining too, enabling everyone to benefit from an exchange of language and culture.
The general monthly "meetings" will initially take the form of a casual drop in for coffee and a chat and will be driven by "user demand".
From this a range of activities will be developed to cater for the varying and individual interests of the group.
Connect for
