A new contact group has been formed in the Haute Vienne town of St Yrieix La Perche - Limousin

“Connect for Friendship”

The group is the brain child of Dutch couple Frans and Toke Verschuren, who, when thy  moved to the town nearly 18 months ago, struggled at first to find much of the information they needed to establish them in their new life.

The aim is to set up an International English speaking group helping newcomers and established people in the town of St Yrieix and its surrounding villages.

Apart from the British, it is hoped that local French and Dutch people will be joining too, enabling everyone to benefit from an exchange of language and culture.

The general monthly "meetings" will initially take the form of a casual drop in for coffee and a chat and will be driven by "user demand".

From this a range of activities will be developed to cater for the varying and individual interests of the group.

Connect for Friendship (Connectff) Association

Owing to its increasing popularity and ever increasing attendance, the Connect for friendship association (Connectff) has now affiliated with Familles Rurales within the local area and will therefore now meet at a new venue.

The meetings will still be held on the first Friday of each month starting at 10 am and continuing on until noon.

The new venue is: - Famille Rurales, 60 Place de la Nation,

St Yrieix La Perche.

This is the ground floor area of the building where the French lessons are held with Mme. Bernadette. The building is opposite the North end of the tree lined car parking area at the Place de la Nation.

Parking will now be a lot easier and the new hall should have much kinder acoustics which will promote even more discussion between attendees.

Tea, Coffee and biscuits will still be available.

We hope that you can spare the time to come along and visit us and enjoy meeting like minded people who have settled in the area.

The key word is "Friendship" and everyone's welcome to pop in for a coffee and a chat.

The next meetings will be

NB ~ All these meetings start at 10 am and finish at midday.

Périgord Lawn Bowls Club

Our first full season ended in September 2007 with the Club Championship finals being played.

The mixed Pairs were won by Carol and Peter Allars beating Sian and Vince Foster.

Alan Biss ran out the winner against Dick Passmore in the Men’s Singles.

The Ladies singles which was the pick of the games was a very close affair with Sue Passmore narrowly beating Pam Wotton. Another excellent match was the Plate Final which ebbed and flowed with each player taking the lead and then letting it slip, Terry Street held off Peter Allars to win. The Mixed League was played throughout the whole season, went to the last set of matches with three teams still in contention. It was particularly nice to see that some of the novice bowlers were in the teams taking part in the final play offs. The winners were Sue Passmore, David Preston, Clive Davie and Ged Hall. The trophies, all very generously donated by club members, were presented at the club dinner in November at the salle des fêtes in Vieux Mareuil.

Members have helped the committee in a review by completing a short questionnaire so everyone has an input to the planning of next season. The Championships and Mixed League were successful but we need to look at including some events which can be played over a shorter period. Integration with our French neighbours must continue to be an objective. Work continues on our Web site and hopefully will be up and running this spring.

Throughout the winter months we will be playing Short Mat Bowls after having a short mat very kindly donated by Mrs Patricia Smith.

Our sincere thanks goes to our sponsors AXA Assurance; Blevins Franks Financial Management and Périgord Renovation we look forward to their continued involvement in 2008.

If you are looking for a sport or a new hobby why not come along, full
